What Can We Learn From Painful Experiences?

What can we learn from painful experiences?

In itself, the title of this article inspires a kind of calm and relief… The fact that painful experiences and lessons learned go hand in hand is something that gives us some peace of mind. There is life after pain to apply what you have learned.

On many occasions you have seen yourself suffering for something that you think will not end, that will exist forever. A pain that, far from being extinguished, will entrench itself in the depths of your being and will make your existence go a little more uphill. Making the way more and more complicated.

You see yourself immersed in a kind of spiral of pain that “never” ends. You foresee the future. You could guess what your life is going to be like in the rest of it. But if we could disappear from that dark and gray place where we are and see ourselves from the outside … we would see that we are under a black cloud.

Behind the painful experiences are the lessons we learn

A black cloud that soon begins to pour drops of water. It rains and it rains, and it soaks us. We are out in the open. We are cold and afraid of freezing to death on this winter day where our skin is devoid of shelter. We are raw. We suffer the consequences of being naked and vulnerable under a black cloud that only unloads all its anger on us.

Well, in a way that black cloud is ourselves. Hurting us, making the battles we are fighting gigantic. Dyeing our current reality with even darker and saturated colors. Have you ever seen yourself like this? Telling you with extreme cruelty and conviction that you are not going to get out of this. That you will not be able to recover from such pain of the soul …

Trust me, you will. You will recover. The painful experiences that you live (breakdowns, duels, disappointments …) are seeping into your person. It is as if we have within us a kind of sieve of the lessons that we will have to learn in the end. A strainer in which learning is filtered.

Even if you are having a hard time now, rest assured that you will learn from it

The tiny lessons we draw from every experience. Even if you don’t realize it, even if you think that this process is not taking place. It is taking place. With total certainty. Each and every painful experience we go through has a meaning in the end.

And its meaning is to show us a reality that we must learn to continue our path lighter in weight and with the limits of our path better defined. When these limits are not defined, we head butt from one side to the other. On the other hand,  when we build ourselves as people and seek that which enriches us, we make our minds more lucid and our paths more fertile.

For this reason, painful experiences are intimately linked with the opportunity to learn the lessons that they want to show us. Behind every bad experience there is a learning potential that will not escape us. There are situations in life that repeat themselves over and over again until we manage to learn from them.

Suffering is human, just like learning from experiences is human

So even if now you see yourself in that gray, dark cloud, full of anger and desolation … rest assured that behind it hides a wonderful sun that is full of desire to illuminate your path. But of course, when one is under that cloud, one is not able to perceive this. And there is no problem, because everything has its time. It is normal to suffer and it is human.

Just as it is normal to get out of this suffering and learn from it. Sometimes it will cost us more effort and other times less. In any case, don’t forget about your own experience and the times that you also thought you were on a ship that would never float again. Perhaps you think that now you are worse than then or that it had never happened to you in that section of your life, but believe me when I tell you that the rules are similar … that everything that goes down also tends to go up and that when this happens you will be thankful for not having thrown the towel.
