Eva Was Not Born Of Any Rib Or Offered Apples To Anyone (Women’s Day)

Eva was not born of any rib or offered apples to anyone (Women's Day)

Every March 8 we commemorate Women’s Day around the world. This is important, because a day like today as it was conceived is not celebrated or congratulated, it is commemorated. Why? Because this point on the calendar was set to remember more than 100 women who lost their lives in a New York factory fire in 1908.

These women were in the Sirtwoot Cotton factory when the fire started, which is attributed to the owner of this same company. Causing the fire was her response to the strike that was taking place to demand equal pay, the reduction of the working day to 10 hours and time to be able to breastfeed her children.

In 1910, the Second International Conference of Working Women was held in Denmark, at which point it was established on March 8 with International Working Women’s Day. It is this fact that is taken as a reference to fight for the labor rights of women in each country.

Nowadays , the “celebration” of this day has been extended as Women’s Day, a moment that helps us remember all the benefits that the gender that brings life to the world contains. However, this day should serve as a point of vindication, not of categorization of women as admirers of the color pink, makeup or other types of stereotypes and micromachisms that business marketing takes advantage of.

Why is it necessary to empower women?

The empowerment of women is as necessary as it is urgent in our society, since it offers the female gender the adjustment of the powers and strengths that correspond to it without submission or submission.

Even in this century our hearts shrink when a woman is mistreated for the simple fact of being one, when her desires and desires are locked away because it is not conceivable that a woman does not sacrifice herself for others, when we expect her to be the woman the one who gets up to pick up the dishes, when we are struck by a managerial woman, when car brands use the woman’s body to attract buyers, when the sale of a perfume depends on the attractiveness potential of the woman in the advertisement, etc.

Like it or not, we live in an unequal world. Our minds and our expectations are unequal according to what gender. This is reflected in our behaviors and thoughts and, when we become aware, we fight against them day after day.

What do we want for women this day and for the rest of the year?

We want a woman to have the same opportunities as a man, neither more nor less. We want that there is no need to make international tributes every March 8th. We also want balance and equality to come naturally.

We do not want to be paid less, or work for free. We do not want job offers to ask us our size or require a good presence. Nor do we want to have to wear a uniform with a skirt by decree.

We do not want a woman to be brought up as a martyr and be socially forced to sacrifice her wishes “for the good of others.”   We do not want the color pink to be used to honor us, because that color belongs to all of us.

We don’t want advertising to objectify us. We do not want breastfeeding to be frowned upon or for not doing it to make us look weird. We want to decide that we be seen as one more being of this world without fear of breaking ourselves.

Because the fragile is not synonymous with feminine and household chores or raising children are not just a matter for women. Because, as the fantastic Eduardo Galeano rightly highlighted:

“If Eve had written Genesis, what would the first night of love of mankind be like? Eva would have started by clarifying that she was not born from any rib, nor did she meet any serpent, nor did she offer apples to anyone, and that God never told her that you will give birth in pain and your husband will dominate you. That all these stories are pure lies that Adan told the press ”.

Happy life to all women

Happy life, woman. We say “happy life” because today we will not congratulate you for being loving, hardworking, a good mother or a better daughter. We simply call on you to feel proud of who you are as a person, to join the demonstrations and issues and visualize the inequalities.

However, remember that although each March 8 is a day dedicated to all the wonderful women in the world and in history,  we must not forget that we must shout with the same intensity during the rest of the year.

That said and once again:  HAPPY LIFE, WOMEN. Because although for centuries society has insisted on believing that women are nothing, a woman can be EVERYTHING without limitations or distinctions and there is more and more awareness of this.
